European honeycomb:
European bee products, without any doubt, are among the best food products in the world!
Millions of consumers eat European honey every day, but honey is not the only product that bees offer us.
One of the most important products that bees produce after the honey is honeycomb! A nutritious, very tasty, but also a product with multiple uses!
Honeycomb is produced by the special glands that the bee has, and plays a very important role in its life and function.
More specifically, the wax bees produce helps in the construction of cells where the bees store the pollen, honey, and royal jelly.
The second very important use of wax in combination with propolis is to “repair” cracks and damage that the hive may have suffered!
Characteristics:
The color of the honeycomb varies depending on the other ingredients it contains and can be light yellow to dark brown.
But the lighter the color, the better the quality of the honeycomb!
As mentioned above, bees use wax produced by worker bees with their waxing glands to form the beeswax.
In its original form, the wax is a clear liquid which in a very short time becomes solid, and slowly the bees make the honeycomb.
The honeycomb, as we said, acts mainly as a storage space for bees and thus consists of many cells, of export shape, joined together.
These cells are divided into 3 categories:
The cells of the worker bees:
They are small cells where the worker bees grow and where they store pollen and honey!
The cells of the male bees:
The male bees grow there and only honey is stored there.
The royal cells: Where queen bees live.
It is noteworthy here to say that for every kilo of wax produced by bees, 8 kilos of honey are used!
The honeycomb is undoubtedly an excellent example of the miracles that nature can do!
But apart from being very beautiful, it is also very nutritious and is used by humans thanks to its very sweet taste.
Honeycomb is rich in carbohydrates, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and many more nutrients.
Along with the honeycomb, we can make wonderful sweets, using a small amount of honeycomb as they are very sweet!
Honeycomb, and especially European honeycomb produced to the strictest quality standards and food safety in the European Union, is the best product worth tasting. But there are even more delicious products that bees produce, like:
Royal jelly:
Royal jelly, just like its name says, is the food of the queen bee.
Royal jelly is the natural viscous, biological substance, produced by young female worker bees and it is required for the exclusive diet of the queen.
Royal jelly is a very rich source of proteins, amino acids, lipids, minerals. It is also a very rich source of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, B7, B8, B9, B9, B12 and C. Pantothenic acid (B5) plays a major role in the metabolism of developing larvae. It is white to yellow in color, while in terms of taste it is relatively acidic thanks to its low pH.
Propolis:
It is a soft, flexible, sticky material containing basic resins and various juices, wax, essential oils, and pollen. Bees use propolis to spread the content of the hive, disinfect it, and close slits, and so on.
Pollen:
Pollen is the dust that bees collect on their feet from flowers. And is the beginning of everything!
As we can see bees offer us a complete variety of natural products, full of nutrients, and most of all? With absolutely delicious taste to create unforgettable dishes!
